  • A Whale of a Time

So I recently mentioned on @Nushirox2 ‘s blog that I took care of a whale once, and tbh it probably deserves more than a short comment to explain :P

Me and my bro were dog sitting for a friend one evening when our parents arrived at 23:00 or something like that with wet suits and tales of somekind of Whale rescue going on. We were quite tired and a bit confused but hopped in the car and we drove off half way down the Island on which we live to a Loch (Scottish word for sea inlet) where this smallish Whale had gotten a bit lost and come ashore.

It was a horrid night with rain and gusty wind, plus as always here the water was no where near anything that you might consider warm but there was a dedicated bunch of alternatives and hippies gathered round to do right by our oceanic mammalian friend :)

I think if I recall correctly it was about 9 or 10 foot long though it might have been more and had been taken near a pier and contained until the morning when they would guide it out and hope that its messed up radar wouldn’t send it right back into the land.

The problem is that Whales ain’t meant to sit still near the land for very much time and they most certainly ain’t meant to have their skin exposed to the air for more than a few mins at a time, this poor little chap was looking at a whole night of inactivity and exposure…or worse a short hard trip into a rocky shore.

So working in shifts us land monkies took turns moving its tail, massaging it and making sure to apply plenty lubricating jelly stuff to its back so as to stop the skin from degrading and peeling off (which it would quite easily if you weren’t careful) the whole night was quite tiring VERY cold and rather bizarre, since in groups of 3 or 4 we’d troop down the pier hop in the water and sit with this big Whale, stroking, moving and in some cases singing to it to make sure it was calm and relatively happy :)

Thankfully there was a few nice warm dry suits knocking about and plenty hot coffee and biscuits and by the time we left it was getting close to dawn and so far the beast was still alive and kicking…well flapping.

Though we had gone home the hardcore group stuck with it and by morning they had gotten a plan sorted. The Whale was guided (or possibly dragged) out of the Loch and taken into deeper water where they released it. It promptly disappeared and everyone held their breath thinking the poor thing had given up the ghost, but after a moments pause it came up on the other side of the boat and blew a farewell blast from its blowhole before swimming off to the deep sea :)

On the subject of the blowhole I didn’t know until that night that it is actually quite dangerous to get breathed on by a Whale as they have bacteria in the blowhole that can be harmful, so we had to watch out for that during the long night.

Anyway it all ended well and was quite the experience, cold but rewarding.

  • Tunes Tuesday #9

Woohoo it’s Tuesday AND i’m not too tired to blog! :)

Time to try your luck in Atlantic City with The Band.

This song is as far as I can figure out perfect, the lyrics perfectly embody chance, luck and gambling as does the melody and tune. I love most of The Band but this is got to be a close runner for one of their best songs along with When I Paint My Masterpiece and King Harvest.

Have a listen and really dig the feel and mood created by this song, it’s a very impressive bit of work.

    Atlantic City – The Band:

Well, they blew up the chicken man in philly last night
And they blew up his house, too.
Down on the boardwalk theyre ready for a fight
Gonna see what them racket boys can do.

Now theres trouble busin in from outta state
And the d.a. cant get no relief.
Gonna be a rumble on the promenade
And the gamblin commissioners hangin on by the skin of his teeth.

Everything dies, baby thats a fact
But maybe everything that dies some day comes back.
Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty
And meet me tonight in atlantic city.

Well, I got a job and I put my money away
But I got the kind of debts that no honest man can pay.
So I drew out what I had from the central trust
And I bought us two tickets on that coast city bus.

Everything dies, baby thats a fact
But maybe everything that dies some day comes back.
Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty
And meet me tonight in atlantic city.

Now our luck may have died and our love may be cold
But with you forever Ill stay.
Well be goin out where the sands turn to gold
But put your stockings on cause it might get cold.

Oh, everything dies, baby thats a fact
But maybe everything that dies some day comes back.
Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty
And meet me tonight in atlantic city.

Now Ive been a-lookin for a job, but its hard to find
    Theres winners and theres losers
And I am south of the line.
Well, Im tired of gettin caught out on the losin end
But I talked to a man last night,
Gonna do a little favor for him.

Well, everything dies, baby thats a fact
But maybe everything that dies some day comes back.
Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty
And meet me tonight in atlantic city.

Oh, meet me tonight in atlantic city,
Oh, meet me tonight in atlantic city.

  • Caveman

Not bad for a quick post this Xanga App.

Well on Thursday I woke at 3:45 and went to work cleaning for 4 hours, then met up with my bro and a friend at 8:30 to head off to a near by island were there is an abandoned mine :D

Despite it being horrible the day before Friday was stunningly sunny and lovely so we took the ferry over and after a quick breakfast headed up into the hills to find the mine.

The day was brilliant! We found the mine with the help of a friend of our other friend who lives on the island and very kindly acted as our guide.

Working together we snuck into the mine entrance and had a cracking adventure exploring it and taking photos, then we went to a second entrance and explored that too :D

It was a pretty tiring but REALLY enjoyable day, eventually we headed home on the 6:05 ferry and I thankfully got to sleep over at another friends house rather than having to cycle back home and then get up ready for work on Friday.

After going to bed at midnight -_- ( got hooked watching Bridesmaids ) I did another 3 hours cleaning and finally got to go home, unsurprisingly I ended up sleeping most of Saturday and Sunday lol but overall much fun was had, and plenty of cool photos taken…not by me sadly though :/

Will post what I could take with my phone though:

  • Sometimes…

“You eat the bar, and well sometimes the bar eats you”

Ten points and a gold star to anyone getting that quote :)

    Recent lessons include:

    Don’t drink cheap vodka.

We all have our obsessions, but you don’t have to let them have you.

Sometimes you just have to accept not knowing.

Good deeds sometimes don’t go unpunished.

Be honest and if you spot yourself being dishonest with yourself don’t ignore it.

    Smile, tomorrow is another day.

And I’ll leave you with this image of good advice ;)

  • Early Bird…

…Can’t find time to blog -_-

Next fortnight will be working three locations to clean, two of which start VERY early. One supermarket was okay with me being there at 6 since it’s quite small, but the bigger one would prefer me to be there at 4! and to be honest i’d make life easier as the cleaning is tricky while customers are floating about.

But I doubt most days i’ll be making it at that time, will give it a jolly good try though since you’ve got to exceed the position you are currently in and do your level best in whatever you spend your time on :)

Sorry for delays and crappy posts, I know I know i’ve gotten boring…but thats work for ya…

  • Interview

Currently in Glasgow just about to go for a college interview :D

To the anonymous secret writer who always posts the ‘saintblue is so handsome but doesn’t seem to know it’ secret…
    Today I reckon you’re right ;) lol

6: I’d like to travel still, mainly to Asia and perhaps NZ

7: As per my request at the start of this year, everything seems to be changing. Has sort of left me feeling a bit out of place.

8: Still figuring out all the complexities of being in a relationship which only just started this year too, all very confusing and distracting lol

  • The Right Words

This is a Word Challenge/Game by @nushirox2 or at least she was the one who tagged me so i’m assuming it was hers.

We’ve taken to trivializing our language and words, using the extremes to somehow get more out of our expressions and conversation, perhaps it is the natural tendency of humans to push the boundries or maybe we just think it’s funny :)

So the game is to pick 6 words that I have been mis-using and trivializing…shouldn’t be hard I doubt :/

Lets start with Incredible. This is supposed to be something impossible to believe, but I believe almost everything so that can’t be used right ;)

Then Outstanding. Mainly I just use this because Harry Solomon from Third Rock from the Sun used it :P

Or what about Fabulous. This should be saved for when you walk into the hanging gardens of Babylon, not for a really nice sandwich.

Even such things as Terrible. Nothing Terrible has ever happened to me I doubt, and to be honest i’m quite glad of that, it must be extremely, shockingly terror causing to count as terrible according to the definition.

Okay so I might over use it sometimes, but actually the word Wonderful. Fits just right when you are seeing something like the Aurora in the middle of a frosty clear night. But not so much for anything that falls short of inspiring delight.

And finally the vastly over used and wildly out of context Crazy. I can use this word to mean LOADS of different things none of which even come close to the real meaning lol

I love eloquence in both written and spoken language, so I tend to play around with words and speech just to make pretty sounds. But when you have the pleasure of listening to or reading someone who fully and intelligently grasps their language it is always a treat, so I agree that the safe guarding of our words and their true meanings is an important lesson to keep.

As for my Tag targets hmm…

  • When

When spring forgot to spring and winter held on and on…

When the hills caught fire and the blue skies wouldn’t rain…

When the sun rose it found everything had changed, but it’s used to that.

  • California

For almost a year now my blog has been bombarded with footprints from California.

Day after day after day after day all I see is ‘California’ it stops if I go onto sign in lock I think, or maybe friend lock.

But I don’t want to let this persistent Californian Bot to win, does anyone have a solution?
