  • Horrors Nightmare.

It’s Halloween story time, and since i’m a Nerd and prefer my horror heros to be Anti, this is going to be based on a computer game character and world.

The game was released in 1997 (which in gaming is ancient) and the Character is Caleb a human gunslinger turned undead demon, on a revenge trip against the evil Cabal that trained him.

But if i write it well enough knowing the game or not shouldn’t matter.
Be ready for Blood, violence and darkness…you have been warned.

It was late and the party was still loud and heaving despite many of the visitors having left or disappeared out into the privacy of the surrounding trees.
Amy and Becky had come with a friend but he was now gone and the girls needed a ride, it was late and they needed some time to rest if they were going to make it out again tomorrow.

They’d been in this position before, Steve had a car but was easily distracted if there were pretty women close by, so it wasn’t unusual for the girls to be left having to catch a ride, it also wasn’t unusual for them to be able to convince a guy with a car to give them a lift.

The girls settled in the back of the truck, drunk and giggly chatting loudly and joking as they were driven through the gloom. By the time they noticed they’d left the main road it was already too late, and in their stupor they didn’t see the danger unfolding.

Without warning the truck stopped and the driver got out almost instantly, disappearing into the thick undergrowth that lined the single track dirt road.
The girls initially just looked at each other and laughed, but soon they started to become nervous. The engine was stopped but the lights were left on, and the combination of the sudden silence only broken by the droning of cicadas with the dancing maelstrom of moths ahead grew a sense of dread that gripped the girls with icy fingers.

Slowly they left the truck, carefully peering into the surrounding darkness and huddling close to each other, the road was empty, silent, and on all sides the thick trees leaned over them like watching specters.

“Where the fuck did he go?” Amy asked through gritted teeth, a mix of anger and building panic sobering her up quickly.
“Where ARE we?” Becky said her green eyes wide in the bright headlights.
“I don’t fucking know but we’ve gotta get back to the main road right the fuck now!” Amy turned and tugged Becky’s arm as they made their way round the truck and into the enclosing darkness away from the headlights.

The only lights they have with them are small LED’s that were at the party.
Keeping close together and as near to the middle of the dirt track as possible they began walking back the way they must have come.

Around them the only sound is cicadas, whirring and buzzing in random harmony, but suddenly when all but the glow of the trucks lights have vanished behind the gently curving road the cicadas stop. The night is quiet, a thundering quiet that threatens to squash the air out of their lungs.

The girls stop their breathing quick and harsh in the hissing silence, above them a sudden heavy whoosh like that of large leathery wings drives a sharp point of fear through their hearts, falling to the ground they peer ahead as the feeble light of their torches fades into the distance. And then ahead, a heavy thump and again the leathery flap.
Amy pulls Becky up and staggering backwards stares into the blackness ahead, moments pass as the girls breath, waiting, watching.

Becky screams and turns dragging Amy with her, the two run, back towards the truck, back towards the only safety for miles.

“What was it what did you see?!?” Amy gasps as she struggles to match Becky’s frantic pase.
    “Eyes!!…yellow EYES!!”

They reach the truck quickly, almost running into it as they round the bend.
They make their way round to the front and huddle in the perceived safety of the headlights.
Looking backwards they squint against the bright light, failing to notice the figure standing just at the edge of the headlights reach.

Beyond the truck the thumping is getting closer now joined with a scraping and scratching of something sharp on the hard dust road.

“There may be trouble ahead, But while there’s music and moonlight and love and romance….” The voice begins like a faint wind rustling long dead leaves and grows to a dry growl.
The girls scream in unison and spin round to see a man standing in the road ahead, his wide brim pulled low, his head lowered and a double barreled sawed-off in one hand.
As he raises his head they fall silent, beneath the brim where his eyes should be only wide dark red oval slits remain and within them a terrible light.

    “W..what the f..fuck do you w..want?!”
Saying nothing the man advances, he gets two steps before the front of the truck violently jerks upwards, once again startling the girls. They turn just in time to dive in opposite directions away from each other as a boney, fleshy, leathery mass leaps from the darkness behind the truck, its claws leaving deep scars in the metal.

The man reacts in an instant, swinging his shotgun up and driving it into the drooling face of the creature. It’s grim yellow eyes flicker for a moment and then a loud shot disintergrates it’s skull sending bloody chunks scattering over the truck.

I’ll do more of this tomorrow hopefully, but i thought i’d post a bit otherwise i’m likely to miss Halloween :P

Apologies for the writing errors, it was done in a rush…and at night while i was half asleep.
