The Six Stages of a Post
First theres Stage One Conceptual: This is either ‘in the moment’ when i sit down with the intention of posting but no plan, or the more common pre-planned which can be something i’ve been mulling over or slowly constructing for days.
The actual constructing of the post is usually quick, either one session of writing and then some quick image processing and it’ll be up, or more recently since I discovered private posts i’ll have one half written that i’ll finish and post on public.
Stage two is Self Doubt: This is usually right after posting when I start worrying that what i’ve just written is silly or boring and it’ll be completely ignored or i’ll somehow dissapoint any regular readers or friends.
Stage Three is Anticipation: Often I will have posted at night or before heading off to do something for most of the day, and the best bit of this stage is the checking of my mail for new comment warnings.
Stage Four Comment Confidence: While it’s fresh and people are commenting things are good, my self doubt is gone and usually everyone is so amazing, nice and intelligent that I start to feel really confident about my post.
Stage Five Half Life: Every post has a life and soon it will be gone, as the new views slow and I reply to all the comments I begin to feel the life of my post dwindle, sometimes i’ll timestamp if I feel that my original release missed the majority timezone but mostly I just let recs do their job as the post-glow fades.
Stage Six DownTime: Depending on the response and how I’m now feeling about my recent post i’ll be more or less happy to leave it as my latest topic, sometimes i’ll be in a rush to move on while other times a sense of pride and calm lets me leave it for a few extra days…mean while my mind is already searching for the next idea.
What mental patterns do you go through when planning, executing and managing your new posts?
Also check-out my pulse for a link to Cestovatelka’s Halloween Costume Contest, I’m hoping to find time to post something for it myself, along with a spooky horror story soon but for now she needs more entrants so check it out and join in!

Sometimes I blog about something out of nowhere and other times I will blog about something that’s been on my mind for a long time. I prefer spare of the moment blogging though cause I think I do better that way. Sometimes when I think of something for too long it doesn’t really turn out like I wanted it to if that makes sense. Great post!
I used to go through the same process as you. Now I’m more the ” post without thinking and hope someone reads” kinda person.
I don’t do much of any planning. They tend to be what I’m thinking about right then and I just type it out and post it. Many are off-the-cuff and without even really thinking I post it. Then…my self doubt comes after I post it and see it there. When I see it there, especially my poetry…I get suddenly vulnerable and a bit scared.
The poor people who are around when I post something new…’cause often they are in the middle of reading it and it disappears. I did that the other night with a story I wrote. I put it up and then took it down like three minutes later. Several people PM’d me and were like, “Where is your post I was in the middle of reading!?”
I like that you think through things and plan them out. It shows. You do some amazing posts! I will reread this post and try to incorporate some of your strategy into my future posting!
HUGS and Happy Weekend, Bede!
I like how you proceed. It shows a concern and respect for the people who will read you. People sense that and respond accordingly. I think it depends how we really want to communicat with people. Of course there is an effort involved. I often think during the day what i will talk about in my next post. How interesting it is that we want to communicate with people we’ll never meet. The concept is very powerful.
No planning. Mine always from the heart and passion, but maybe that’s why mine is a bit artless and heartfelt, and sometimes quite candid.
@boricua_chic_2008 - Yes I know exactly what you mean, if I over think something it’s regularly so much worse than when I trust intuition.
@beauty_is_truths_smile - Sounds much more relaxing, hopefully i’ll get to that point in a while
@AdamsWomanFell - Haha yes I’ve been half way through reading some of your posts, then had to break off and by the time I come back they’re gone :/
I know the feeling though, my reaction to it is posting something else quickly and trying to make everyone forget about the post I don’t like
I’m still regularly surprised when things I really don’t feel confidence in get good response.
@locomotiv - I like the way your mind works
I think we are quite similar in many ways.
@RestlessButterfly - Taking your latest as example i’d say you’re VERY candid
When you have passion though the results might sometimes be a bit rough, they are always wonderful. I often get a real sense of emotion with your posts, it’s just one more reason why I love reading you
@BFB1131 - Hehe… very CANDID.
