I have always had an interest in architecture…not the impressive design side more the appreciation of it and the lines and structure of buildings.
I also have an interest in drawing…but sadly cannot draw well enough yet to draw something demanding perspective and straightness such as buildings. So at the moment I tend to stick to human figures, and it’s due to this that I have begun to really love the Human form.
I don’t just mean appreciating a beautiful person but rather the structural and architectural beauty of a person. As I teach myself to draw I have been spending a lot of time examining legs, arms, faces and bodies and the more I look the more amazing the detail and perfection, initially of course it was the female form that I thought was the best (and largely still do tbh) since Women are so much more sculpted than men.
But as I continued I’ve more and more begun to notice the beauty in all bodies be they fit or flabby, young or old, man or woman.
Especially faces though, faces are fascinating. The lines of jaws, the shapes of eyes, the stories written in wrinkles, the depth of expressions.
Here are a few of the best bits and bobs from bodies that I particularly like….(and for this post I think I’ll stay away from R rated areas lol)
Starting at the bottom…..no not there.

With no intention of admitting to a disturbing fetish (not that there’s anything wrong with that) but I have to say a little bit about Feet.
Feet are a wonderful design, they manage to be perfectly practical yet stunningly elegant, they are sexy yet understated I love em…..unfortunately i can’t draw them to save my life but the foot and particularly that boney bit that is just at the end of the ankle on the outside are one of the wonders of nature in my opinon.

Next Legs and arms. Well i don’t really need to make much of an argument for legs, male or female legs are gorgeous the calf muscle is my favorite though the way it curves out and then back in to form the ankle is just perfect. And arms are much the same the range of motion, the structure of the elbow and the funnel shape of the forearm down to the wrist are all great areas to study in detail. Oh and the should and how the collar bone holds everything together and yet seem so delicate and exposed.

The Back. Such an emotive part of the anatomy I always feel, so many complex muscles and the spine supporting our whole bodies while allowing us to flex, bend and twist. Of particular note would be the shoulder blades which have always facinated me for some reason. As soon as i workout how to draw muscles well enough I could spend days just drawing the back and it’s curves and hidden details.

Chest and this suprisingly is where i reckon us men have the edge, of course Women have certain ‘assets’ in the chest area but I really like the detail of fit muscles…not crazy body builder muscle but someone well toned, and even when your dealing with a stick boy nerd (such as myself) the male body has a facinating triangular shape from the shoulders to the groin. There are some ancient bronze Greek statues that were found at the bottom of a lake and they are in a similar style to the more commonly known Greek sculpture, but the proportions are ever so slightly out of whack in a way that would in fact be anatomically impossible but these alterations were done on purpose to create God like super beings that look to the eye like perfect men, and they are indeed just incredible looking. And it’s those ancient heroic art works and sculptures that i’m always reminded of when it comes to the chest.

And now by far my favorite bit. The hips and waist of a woman, the smooth skin the fantastic lines the symbolic nature of the womb and femininity, the wonderful pear shape from chest to thighs theres just nothing more attractive.

But finally the face, because it’s the most important. Before i started drawing i’d not really taken the time to look at a face in detail and now that i have i can honestly say no matter who or what you are you are beautiful. Each and every mouth and eye, jaw and forehead is intricate on it’s own let alone when they all come together to create a unique and facinating face.

This stunningly realistic DX11 CGI face at first glance could be real, but look for long enough at the tiny missing details and into the eyes and theres something instantly wrong with it, and although i couldn’t acurately put my finger on it whatever it is thats missing highlights to me the real key to whats beautiful, that presence and sense of a ‘person’.
The recent perfect Male/Female body type post got me thinking about all this and really although certain symmetries are pleasing, If you REALLY look at someone and see them in detail you can’t help but find beauty.
