The Journey Home
Long time coming to the end but here is the last leg of my trip down south.
After a really lovely time in Edinburgh I finally was ready to come home and bought some very reasonable coach tickets that went from Edinburgh to Inverness for £5 and then from Inverness to home for another £5
Only issue was that there was a longish delay in Inverness and then a REALLY long delay of almost 4 hours in a tiny little place called Invergarry. The time in Inverness was quick I just wandered about shops and almost bought a really nice sort of goth bracelet lol i think next time i’m there i’m going for it
But the Invergarry time was by far the best. At first since it was cold and empty I though ‘oh dear this will be dull’ but there is a hotel there so I though I may aswell head into the warm if they’ll let me hang out in their bar.
The reception and the bar was manned by a pair of lovely polish folks, (i’m guessing polish) the reception girl told me I could get a coffee in the bar so I laid down my heavy pack settled in the corner and had a rather nice coffee while reading To Kill a Mocking Bird, a very fine book recommended to me by a fellow Xangan and very good friend.
After a bit I’d finished my coffe and thought, ‘hmm I think i’m going to achieve a life long goal today’ So I ordered a Martini
I’ve never had one and I actually really enjoyed it while knocking a couple more chapters on the head. Also in the bar were some other folks, who by the sounds of it were in somewhat involved with the shooting of The Game of Thrones, perhaps one of them was crew on the shoot or something so that was quite cool.
After my Martini I headed out into the cold for a wander, went along the river a bit, poked around a spooky looking hotel and then headed back to the bar with only one more hour to kill. This time I ordered an ale which was also excellent!
and read a few more chapters while sitting in the comfy sofa bit of the hotel hehe
All in all I had a great time in Invergarry and despite my drinks upping the price of my tickest a bit
I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I finished the night dancing to Elvis Presly while waiting for my bus in the dark and cold outside of the hotel lol The ale and martini help loosen me up a bit, but I was mainly doing it for warmth
The coach went for a few more hours and I arrived home to be picked up my my mum, was nice to be be back in my own bed for a change and a fine end to a long but fun trip.

It did sound like a good time.
And I love reading the classics too. “To Kill A Mockingbird” is one of my favorites as well. I also enjoy “Of Mice And Men,” “Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde,” “A Brave New World,” “Lord Of The Flies”….and I probably could go on. lol
I’m sooooo jealous. I would love to visit every country in Europe.
Time can be killed in enjoyable ways. Excellent book you’re reading, too. My favorite books are at least that old. I’m an old fashioned person who likes old fashioned writing.
To Kill a Mockingbird is my all time favorite book and movie! I discovered them when I was in grade school!

Glad you read it! You should do a post on what you thought of the book or learned, etc.
Sounds like you had such fun! I’m so happy for you, BedeFergus!!!
HUGS!!!
sounds wonderful to me
. I like how you enjoy these “little” things like going for a walk and poking around at spooky buildings, and order drinks on your own. I have to say I always felt too embarrassed to do that.
To Kill a Mockingbird doesn’t sound too interesting to me for some reason :- And I’ve never had to read it in school.
I miss train rides. I really wish that rail transportation was much more common in America.
There is probably a bit of confusion what coach means. You can take a coach seat fare on an airplane and maybe coach is meant as a bus ride. I wonder if coach seat means a train ride too?
I wonder if the British still have plenty of book stores? The big retail book store wars sort of made a lot of retail book stores go out of business. Maybe the austerity measures have hurt a lot of businesses in your part of the world?
I consider myself a bottom feeder. I pick up books that are priced way below cost usually at places that sell donated goods.
@Annieothergirl - Ooo thanks
i’ll have to look some of those up, i’ve come REALLY late to reading but i’m getting into it more now.
@olwd - Haha well I’ve only been around the UK so far, but it was fun.
@whyzat - Nothing wrong with being old fashioned
I think I’m quite that way too.
@adamswomanback - Haha aww thanks Carolyn <3
Yes It was an excellent book and I will make a post about it soon, i certainly enjoyed it.
@under_the_carpet - Lol yes it was slightly embaressing when he asked which type of Martini and all I could say was ‘I dunno’ hehe
But yeah all the little details of life are the best bits
@Marica0701 - Well it’s not the sort of thing I usually go for, my taste is mostly Sci-fi but thanks to Emilyandatticus I gave it a go and it really is a wonderful book, just for the writing style let alone the gentle and clever story.
Yeah trains are nice, would be lovely in the States with all your vast open space.
@PPhilip - Ah yesm coaches are busses here, but you can also refer to coach class on other transport types here too :S
We do have bookstores…well actually we mainly have Waterstones and things like that, though you can also find them in Charity shops.
Haha i too am a bottom feeder and happy to be so
