  • Tunes Tuesday #2

Today I’m going for a band that I was first introduced to by another Xangan, and since then have totally fallen in love with one of thier CD’s :)

Panic at the Disco! seem to have taken the theory that you can sing completely random words as long as the tune and melody work :P or at least thats how it first appears but as I’ve listened to them more I have found that even songs with lyrics that are totally nonsensical tell a story, and so it is with this song:

She Had the World – by Panic at the Disco! – Pretty. Odd

She held the world upon a string
But she didn’t ever hold me
Spun the stars on her fingernails
But it never made her happy
‘Cause she couldn’t ever have me
She said she’d won the world at a carnival
But she couldn’t ever win me
‘Cause she couldn’t ever catch me

    I, I know why
Because when I look in her eyes
    I just see the sky
When I look in her eyes
Well I, just see the sky

I dont love you I’m just passing the time
You could love me if I knew how to lie
    But who could love me?
I am out of my mind
Throwing a line out to sea
To see if I can catch a dream

The sun was always in her eyes
    She didn’t even see me
But that girl had so much love
She’d wanna kiss you all the time
Yeah, she’d wanna kiss you all the time

She said she won the world at a carnival
But I’m sure it didnt ruin her
I just made her more interesting
    I’m sure I didn’t ruin her
    Just made her more interesting

    I, I know why
Because when I look in her eyes
    I just see the sky
When I look in her eyes
Well I, just see the sky

I dont love you I’m just passing the time
You could love me if I knew how to lie
    But who could love me?
I am out of my mind
Throwing a line out to sea
To see if I can catch a dream

  • Holy crap, I haven’t listened to Panic! for at least five years haha

  • I haven’t listen to this band in quite some time too, but this is a different side to them then I’m used to. I like it. It’s a bit more mellow and less pop, and I like it much better. Thanks for sharing, Bede! :)

  • Thank you for introducing this very song to me. =D

  • O.O what an amazing song! now I want to hear you sing it :P

  • That’s really pretty! I like the lyrics, as they seem whimsical and really fit the music.

  • @Marica0701 - Well get them back on! :)
    They’re awesome.

@Annieothergirl - Yeah quite a lot of the songs on this CD are similarly less poppy.
Not much of a fan of their other stuff, but this one I’ve listened to many many times :)

@nov_way - You’re welcome :D I find it beautiful and a bit sad, but a lovely song all the same.

@meddwl - Lol well I’ve tried before, and sadly my voice just can’t go as high as theirs…so I have to sing it flat and it’s not very nice to hear :P

    @EmilyandAtticus - Yeah me too :)
They seem to tell a story despite not really making all that much sense.

  • That’s exacty what it is =)
