• Xanga’s Zombie Apocalypse

  The inspirational and generally delightful @babieboo_annie made a pulse recently requesting a Xanga bloggers themed Zombie Apocalypse story of somesort.

  This is of course a brilliant idea and one i’ve sort of edged towards before with a post about picking which Xangans you’d choose for your Zombie Survival Team.

  But the pulse requested a story, and the also delightful @xXxlovelyLollipop tagged me as a potential pen for this story. I am not only flattered by this but…come on it’s Zombies!!! how could I call myself a nerd and refuse such an offer?!?

  Sadly my time is limited at the moment (Hence the lack of another short story that i asked for ideas for, a StarTrek Xanga story is still on the cards eventually…i’ve not forgotten) so as was also suggested in the comments of the pulse, perhaps we could all sort of work on it together a bit?

  Below you will find a rather short starting point featuring who else but the mighty @TheTheologiansCafe well what story about Xanga would be complete wthout him?

  I will add more to it bit by bit (I hope) but if anyone should wish to throw their ideas or short stories into the mix please feel free!

  If we manage to work together loosly and get inspiration from each others input we might be able to create a realistic feeling world based on how the brave Xangans would handle a world infested with Zombies.

  Anyway, without any more ado here is the first shambling step towards a Xanga Zombie Apocalypse Epic.

  The heavy wooden bat made a quiet ‘swish’ sound and then stopped suddenly with a solid ‘crunch’ the force was enough to decapitate the stumbling young man, sending his head spinning in a dark crimson arc into a wall, were it impacted spreading a bloody splatter.

  Dan swung the bat in one quick slice, sending a circle of blood from its edge, then backed slowly into the small metal side door, stepping over the other grey ragged bodies that lay strewn around it.

  He scanned the horizon of buildings quickly, noting the slow columns of smoke still rising lazily into the still black blue morning sky. ‘Still no-one alive’ he muttered before closing the door and locking it securely.

  As he made his way back through the dark building he ran through the past two months again, as he had done almost every day since it had happened. The few weeks prior that had been alive with internet chatter and news reports, mostly taken with a generous pinch of salt or out right disbelief.

  Then as the jokes began to fade and the reality of what was happening became more and more real, the sense of impending doom and powerlessness. Like all the movies and TV shows had warned us but not prepared us.

  Chaos broke out in small pockets and like many sparks that start a forest fire they slowly gathered and soon there was nothing that could stop the spread.

   

  He reached the upper floors, entering a large room with several couches and various boxes, useful items and trash scattered about it. Dropping into a couch he slid a laptop to face him with a finger and tapped the refresh button on his browser.

  ‘please check your network connection’ popped up again.

  He flicked the laptop aside and sighed, resting his hands behind his head and staring at the golden dawn creeping over the smoke stained sky and drab buildings. Closing his eyes he could see the last post he ever wrote clearly behind his lids.

   

   

  It’s Real.

   

  I just shot a cop 5 times in the chest with his own gun…He kept walking.

   

  The last bullet I aimed at his head and he went down.

   

  I’ve got to leave my current location, find me at Xanga HQ

  If you can make it this is the final call for a Xanga meet up…this time bring weapons.

  He laughed to himself, it must have gotten the most views of any post ever, before the internet finally shutdown.

  Would anyone ever actually get here?

  It had been so quiet the last few weeks, maybe there wasn’t anyone left?

   

  He got up, grabbing his bat and walking to the large window.

  ‘No!’ he said loudly to the quiet city below. He slapped the smooth red stained bat hard into his palm.

  ‘If I made it then somewhere out there others have, just got to be patient…where are you?’
