Choose your Character
As an avid gamer I am well aquainted with the process of picking and designing a new character for my self but after reading this post by Nadia @xxxlovelylollipop I thought I’d give it a go and see what my list might be if I could ‘really’ be any new character I wanted.
To be honest I really don’t feel like I have much of a solid character anyway, I’m very changeable and able to morph to the environment I’m in so this could be tricky but i’ll see.
To start with if I were given the choice now I’d have picked female as a gender, not that there’s anything wrong with being a man it has it’s benefits…but on balance Girls have a better deal I reckon. So my first choice is this:

Motoko Kusanagi the Cyborg lead character in the superb Ghost in the Shell Anime.
Not only is she mostly robot (another strong temptation for me for some reason) but she’s strong, intellegent and has had her grasp on reality and perception loosened by connection to a global data network that has given her god like perception and powers. A fascinating and layer character who is all at once able and unbreakable but also fragile and alone.

Staying with Anime but moving to the male persuasion I choose Dante from the Devil May Cry video games.
A character designed to be a personification of Cool, Dante would just be fun because he can do anything, is almost entirely indestructable (due to the part of him that is Demon) and has a general sense of humour about everything and a very layed back cool attitude.

But like Dante there is a temptation in me that draws me to characters that have a darkness or something hidden within…and none could be darker than Caleb a character from a very early PC game called Blood.
Caleb was a gunslinger back in the old west when he met Ophelia who was a member of the Cabal an evil cult that worshipped the dark god Techernobog. After years of service Caleb became one of the four most powerful and evil members of the Cabal.
But suddenly without warning Techernobog turned on his most trusted lieutenants and set three terrible beasts on Ophelia, Gabriel and Ishmael while casting down Caleb back to his mortal body.
Confused by his betrayal and worried for Ophelia Caleb goes on a bloody rampage against the Cabal destroying everything in his path, eventually he finds that Ophelia has been killed and then vows destruction on his dark god. As the game continues you find each of the lieutenants dead and gather their strength eventually reaching Techernobog in the other worldly halls of epiphany.
There he tells you that his plan was to make you his second in command and with the power you have gained you and he could rule together. But Caleb who is now even more powerful than he was before and only loved one thing in his live which Techernobog took from him turns down the offer and kills the god. As THIS ending scene shows he’s not a hero but I really like the concept of someone so totally evil hunting down other evils and ending them sort of a classic Anti-Hero type deal.
So when i’m feeling alone and somewhat dark this is the sort of character that I imagine offers a kind of freedom.

A slightly more posetive version of this type of ‘beast within’ character would of course be The Hulk (and lets be honest who thought i’d get through this list without adding at least one superhero
I don’t really need to introduce this guy do I?
The classic story of the quiet nerd who has the Hulk within, love the concept of this sort of like Dr.Jeckel and Mr.Hyde…but with less murder :/

Okay so this one might be a bit of a cheat because this is a character from the game MassEffect 1 and 2 which is kind of someone you can create and guide to be who you want, but still both me and my brother worked together to create and guide Commander Nova Shepard and she is one of the coolest, toughest and most honourable hero’s we’ve ever made in a game.
Shes fair and balanced while not being weak or compromising…she can also be kinda scary
lol It’s a real credit to the game writers how real this character has become and how important every choice in-game becomes.If I were a hero this is the person I’d want to emulate.

And finally the character I have admired for years ever since as a kid I would listen to the Lord of the Rings on tape.
Samwise Gamgee. A perfect example of loyalty, bravery and companionship, willing to follow his friend to his death all the while a smile on his face and a kind word to say.
I truly admire this sort of heroism and selflessness.

I’m trying to see you in Motoko Kusanagi
hehe Sexy strong Bede
I think of you as the quiet nerd that has the hulk within
Very interesting…
I love jennylovve’s comment.
@I_love_Burma - Hahahaha yea :S it’s a bit of a contrast it has to be said
@jennylovve - :D hehe aww thanks <3
@Passionflwr86 - Thanks…probably lol
@simplysuzu - So do it
Given the choice, I think I’d go with the somewhat ego-stroking decision of choosing something I created. But otherwise, I think I’d choose The Librarian. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unseen_University#Librarian)
Er… Ook.
@Lakakalo - Hahahaha I LOVE the milkman! he’s delightfully creepy and self confident.
Also there was one rather amusing bit I remember from one comic, book or radio program of Discworld where the following exchange occured:
(A great and powerful wizard appears in the library)
“Who are you? and what are you doing here!?”
“I’m Rincewind…I feed the monkey”
“What Monkey??!”
“He’s the librarian”
hehe I just love imagining Rincewinds face as he tries to explain
@SaintBlue1131 - I… Don’t think Rincewind would refer to the Librarian as a Monkey. If anything, the M word sends the ape into a berserk rage. It would, most likely, be “Ape” or “Orangutan”.
Milkman… is creepy? Why? How?
@Lakakalo - Hahaha good point
And as a general rule…udders on men = Creepy ;P
I still like his tude though
I have a few favored characters, from AD&D. My most recent is a four headed dragon named George. He is a bard class character and each head’s personality is based on one of the Beatles. He posseses the skills and abilities of the bard and all the attributes of the dragon. But his best quality is his charisma. He always tries to make friends with you… before eating you.
James Bond!
@Aloysius_son - LOL thats the best dragon I’ve ever heard of!
@fabolousclown - Bede…Bede Bond
I agree with Amalia. You’d make an awesome James…I mean…Bede Bond
@SaintBlue1131 - There’s more! The dragon is actually an avitar for four the bards who live in another world. They each put on a special enchanted necklace which puts them into one of the dragon heads, so when a head is cut off or dies the bard awakes. After proper rest and healing, the bard can reactivate the heads and join his comrades.
When played with four players, the players must each agree to cooperate in order to get the dragon to move as they desire, although each head can speakand act on it’s own, somewhat. The dragon wears an amulet which acts as a location beacon for the avitar. When all four bards remove their necklaces th edragon vanishes, leaving behind all of it’s posessions, including the necklace. When they reenter the realm the dragon forms in th eplace of th enecklace. Which sucks for the rouge who put the necklace in one of his pouches.
I played this character for about three years. It provided unlimited opportunities to entertain and amuse the other players who played along with me!
@xdeelynnx - :D hehe thanks!
I need to try a Martini…i’ve never had one and if I hate them then I’ll never be bond :O lol
@Aloysius_son - WOW I stand corrected thats the best Character I’ve ever heard of!!
So much potential and SO complicated it must be wild trying to figure that one out.
Plus the whole concept is just cool, very virtual reality an dmulti dimensional I love it!
Having a dragon materialize in your pants is never a good thing
@SaintBlue1131 - Complicated you bet! Most of my characters have very complex stories behind them. Like the demon who was suppose to be guarding one of th entrances to hell and was blindly attacked by a party of goody two shoes! They snuck up on him without provocation and slipped a helm of opposite alignment, changing him from an evil selfish creature of chaos to a kind heroic champion of good. Sickening, but quite humorous when he would meet new characters for the first time…
“In the corner of the tavern you see a cloaked creature, he removes his hood and you are standing face to face with a level 5 demon from the ninth plane of hell.” It kind of puts a little pepper in the other players’ pants!
When the dragon was first encountered by the party, (I joined a campaign already in progress) they saw a large four headed dragon sitting or squating at a large pipe organ in a cathedral, playing “Love Me Do”, and the heads singing together in perfect harmony. Two heads kept singing and playing while two heads turned to face the party, swaying to and fro, glared at them with disdainment. They were, after all interupting the performance.
@Aloysius_son - Hehe the only thing worse than super evil…is super good
they are both fanatics.
I much prefer stories and characters with a bit of difference and a sense of humour.
Always best to have a bit of grey area, your demon sounds fun
If I played it I’d want to play AD&D with someone like you for sure!
haha the thought of that cathedral scene just makes me grin lol
Sam, really? wow that’s an odd pick O.O from LotR I’d have picked so many charatcters but not Sam…I guess is the most noble choice though so maybe pretty natural to you.
This is a hell of a post! I haven’t been much on lately but I’m catching up. I’ve been missing you a lot lately *hug*
Sam!!
@xXxlovelylollipop - Aww missing you too
*hugs*
I always notice when you are absent.
lol
Yea there are a fair few awesome wizards and warriors…but I have those covered above. Sam is the sort of chap I truly admire, you can’t fault his loyalty and honour…plus he’s pretty much the only one who get’s the girl in the end
@MommyMarty22 - Hehe I’ve always liked Sam he’s the man!
Yeah, I want a friend like Sam, some Day.
I agree with jennylovve.
@RestlessButterfly - hehe
