  • Profile Pondering

    Another short blog this time and more of a question really:

    I realise that I hardly ever view the profile of people on Xanga, I used to every now and then but most of the time now I just don’t bother :/

    So what about you? do you read peoples profiles? did you fill out your own?

    And whats the first thing you do when you either add someone new or get added by someone? what do you look at, how much of them do you read first off?

  • I check profile on new people who send me friend requests to make sure they have one and are not just more spammers.

  • seldom :/ but I do pay attention on who add me as friend lol. I’m on! get on now.

  • I generally look through peoples’ posts.  Never really cared all that much about filling my own profile. :D

  • I actually do check profiles fairly often, especially when just friended.  At the very least you might get a name.

  • Umm I kind’a suck at it, too many people but I really wish I had the time to read more and visiting more often, I try though but it’s a hard thing to do : I’ve filled mine cuz people looks at it after reading a post in top blogs but I don’t read ppl profiles, I’ve never read yours O_O pretty disturbing if we think how close you’re to my heart.

  • I only check them on people who “friend-request” me. I never took the time to fill in mine…I just figured people will get to know me if they take time to read my posts, my comments, etc. But I might make time to fill it out someday when I’m bored.

    HUGS!

  • I’m new to the site and a new blogger, so I have been looking at profiles. I also have been reading posts and really trying to figure out if this is the place for me… The jury is still out.

  • I think I filled mine in, but I don’t usually look at others’. Don’t know why. I think it’s funny that, when you accept a friend request, you’re asked to share a memory about the person you just accepted. Do they think I knew him in another life?

  • I usually click the profile at the beginning, just in case, but sometimes not. I think it WOULD be cool, if ppl filled it in, but as they don’t usually I tend to forget about it. Not a big deal though. I filled in mine. But i the end it’s more important to know I I think and act than to know what my favourite foods are

  • I love to read profiles, and mine is filled out for the most part. I think they can be quite interesting.

    I’m here because I want to meet people, and get to know them. Kind of like Facebook. And I’m slightly bummed about people who are very private – even to the point of not knowing their name, or even their roundabout age (like if they’re my parents’ age or my age). People shouldn’t have to be afraid to share such basic information on their blogs. It’s not like we’re not asking for Social Security numbers or credit card numbers lol.

  • Hm, I don’t think I ever have aside from the one or two times in the past. I usually just go through a page or two or their posts just to get a feel for who they are–likes, dislikes, personality (complain a lot, always angry, super nice, etc.), particular interests.

  • I do not usually add much to my profile. I guess I feel as though my posts and comments will reveal enough about me that folks will know whether or not they want to be e-friends or not.

    When I get a comment from someone I have not seen before, I will go to there page and check them out. I always gravitate toward the posts, though, as opposed to the actual profiles. (Oh look! A correlation! How do ya like that? :D )

  • I believe it’s always been me getting to know them via their posts and their comments before I friend request them. If they friend-requested me, however, then I most likely checked their profile in addition. And yes, there’s a bit of information about me in my profile-page.

  • I filled in some of mine.

  • I filled out my profile. I don’t look at profiles much because i use my phone to get on here, but if I was on a normal pc I would. I think my name is on my profile… I don’t remember.

  • Hehe … almost never. I only read their posts, not the profile.

  • I filled my profile out extensively when I first joined, and then I noticed that almost no one else had filled theirs out (or had only filled out selective sections) so I stopped even looking to see, lol.

  • I usually read people’s profiles before I add them as a friend. If there are no posts and no profile info then I usually won’t add them, but if there are plenty of posts, the lack of profile info isn’t a problem for me.

    I pretty much only have my “About Me” section filled out since it’s basically a disclaimer so people won’t get the wrong idea about my site based on the username. I even have it show up on my main page since I noticed most people don’t bother going to the profile page, but they still don’t bother to read it. grr….

  • I have my profile filled out and I usually look at people’s profile before befriending them, or whenever I get a friend request.

  • I had read a lot of people’s blog entries on Xanga.  Why do I do that?  I love to read!

  • Just started this whole Xanga world, so I only have 2 entries but I have read other peoples blogs as well.  I love hearing people’s story, every one is different and something different and interesting to say :)

  • I used to have mine all filled out but it was really getting to be too much to keep up with.

  • I have 35 Friend Request pending acceptable due to their profiles are ‘UNKNOWN’.  I rather to get to know the one I befriended with.

  • i used to. but i’d rather read the posts now. that’s where their personalities are reflected.

  • My xanga life consists of top blogs. Its the same folks who make top blogs and the same commenteers always pop up in my daily life. They are not my friends, but, better to be alone and ignored than to be alone all by yourself.

  • @Grannys_Place - Makes sense. :)

    @fabolousclown - Yea I always check folks out who add me.

    @Lakakalo - Yea I tend to read the recent post and early on did check profiles but just never do now.

    @Roadlesstaken - Thats because your a true gent of Blogging :D

    @xXxlovelylollipop - :P I’ve not checked yours either lol
    (off to do that now ;) oh wait no I did check it…bad memory hehe but I remember reading Lulu before :D

    @AdamsWomanFell - I think I filled mine in right at the start…then edited it later on, but I’m not even sure what I put in now lol

    @BoulderChristina - Well I hope you do settle here :)
    It’s a really lovely place if you want to share creative stuff, or just find a group of friends.

    @whyzat - Hahaha yea thats a good point

    @under_the_carpet - I originally had a theroy that guys were more likely to fill it in than girls on here…but then when I realised there were like 10 girls for every guy it became hard to judge the results lol

    @Cestovatelka - Yea it’s nice to find folks who are at least a bit open…but then I can also see with all the creepers and data mining that goes on online why people would want to keep it tricky to find lots of detail…makes getting to know them more fun :D

    @niqohl - Yea usually within one or two posts you can get a feel for the person. While the profile can often be a bit staged feeling.

    @TigersLovePepper - Hahaha always nice when you end up agreeing with yourself ;)

    @nov_way - Now I have to go check yours out :)

    @livingcracked - Thanks for the Add :D

    @Twokidsandapitbull - Ahh yea I used a mobile device for a while…it’s good but lots of stuff dosen’t work, mine wouldn’t let me pulse :/

    @simplysuzu - Yea Me too :)

    @leaflesstree - Yea haha sounds like a familiar story :P

    @naughty_virgin - Hmm sounds very wise, I almost never add anyone and wait for them to add me, which is usually after they comment so it at least means they are most likely human.
    And hehe I saw that bit at the top of your blog, it’s actually what a read first ;) I guess it’s needed when you have that sort of username.

    @Shining_Garnet - I wish I was as dedicated as you :) I’ve fille dout mine but I hardly ever read them anymore.

    @Life333888 - Good reason! :)

    @KateAnn90 - Yea I loved that (still do in fact) when I first began, so many different lives and view points. We are a varied and facinating species.

    @raised_bywolves - Yep after a bit there just isn’t time sadly :/

    @RestlessButterfly - Wow thats a lot!
    Well I’m glad you added me :D

    @islandgypsygirl - Very true :D

    @RulerofMasons - I suppose thats one way to look at it.

  • I look at profiles often. Either when I wander around, or when someone visits my site.

    My profile is pretty much all completely filled out, of course. If I like to look at people’s profiles, it behooves me to fill out mine, yes?

  • @SaintBlue1131 -  mine is strange. The weblog editor is extremely simple and I have to edit html to leave comments.

  • 1st of all.. NICE name change

    And yea i usually do go through and check people’s blog.. and see what they’re about basically

    I like to know who’s reading and such ,lol and who’s subbing

    O.o… more updates coming up on Minimumus and Wackstar Soon….

  • I used to look through certain people’s profiles, but I just find it more interesting to read through their posts.

    I did fill out my whole profile just because I was bored :P

  • @SaintBlue1131 - Oh, I don’t mean a through background check or anything.  But a quick skim through the recent series of posts is usually enough to let me know if I want them as a friend or not.

  • @SaintBlue1131 - I read blogs to see what other people’s views are.

  • I don’t usually look at profiles, I just read back through some of their entries. :) And that’s about it.

  • @Unstoppable_Inner_Strength - Indeed so…and might I compliment you on the use of ‘behooves’ :)

    @Twokidsandapitbull - Now with the app your’s should be better.

    @Twiztidsilverskull - Oh yea the other people connected is another thing I don’t look into all that much, I might notice familiar sig pics everynow and then though in the comments.
    And thanks :) I finally got my 10k :D

    @xdeelynnx - Hmm not sure i’ve checked yours either :P

    @Megabyyte - Yea pretty much my approach too :)
