  • I’m up here!

    I have a problem.

Who was it who invented the idea of NameTags for waitresses?

And why did they not think to put the tag elsewhere?

Okay admittedly going out to places isn’t my biggest use of time, but when I do i’m often confronted by a minor but still potentially quite annoying problem. The probelm is that my eye seight is fine for most times but can become a bit fuzzy at range or under certain types of light…like those indoors for instance.

So when I’m there dealing with a waitress or other server, I am tempted to be polite and get the name from the tag…but if i’m not close enough or perhaps tired or the lighting is low i’ll have to spend more than a decent amount of time deciphering the name, this while entirely innocent could easily be mis-understood and although it has never happened I can see the potential day coming that some poor waitress whos not had the best of days may get the wrong impression from my eyeline :S

So I suppose my question is where else could we put the name tag? that would avoid such issues and is this a problem anyone else has encountered or worried about or am I alone?

Best of all is there anyone who’s worked or is working as a waitress and what are your thoughts opinions?

  • This is a problem why???

  • They can put the nametag right on the forehead.  I can see that going over well.

  • Focus harder on the name tag, try harder to ignore those big boobs, and you’ll be fine.

  • @tyrannosaurus_specs - hehehe well it’s not untill it is…and you have hot coffee in your lap :P lol

@Roadlesstaken - Yea…maybe not, but the hat would work…but then it’s noly some places that have hats :/

@RestlessButterfly - Boobs or no, a guy intently focusing on your chest area is likely to get noticed lol

  • @under_the_carpet - Thats quite a good idea actually :)
    Or on an arm band.

  • As a waitress, I’ve actually never really noticed people staring at my chest. My name tag is usually on the strap of my apron, which lies parallel to my sternum. Since my boobs aren’t that big, it’s never a DIRECT stare. Haha.

  • You know those silly headbands like for New Years Eve? Maybe they can wear them, and on the headband have their name.

But I’m sure that’s far more boring for men than having the nametag on boobies. :P lol

  • @BFB1131 - haha! If that’s the case, you must have really bad eyesight, or…

Maybe the staff should wear a shirt with the name emblazoned on the back, and in the usual ‘nametag’ spot on the front. Wouldn’t solve the staring issue, but you could watch when they walk away and memorize their name.  Wait…that could just like you were staring at her ass. lol disregard everything I say from this point forward.

  • Ha! You’re a hoot!

They should tattoo their names on their foreheads. At least then people might look at their forehead first. ??? Naw, probably not!

    HUGS!

  • I completely agree with you for many years now I have fought to have the name tag moved to an easier to read location… my initial thought, put it on the backside of the server’s pants… this however presented problems if the wait person wanted to sit down.

Of course, you could always say what Homer Simpson said when told, “I’m up here,” he simply replied, “I’ve made my choice.” Haha. I still find that line hilarious. Also, a large portion of their income is from tips… men, probably, tip better if their attention is moved to the bosom, as it were, just throwing that out there.

  • Right on the front of their pants…like where the button is on their pants or where a belt buckle should be. I’t'd be eye level for customers who are sitting down as she is standing up…problem solved! haha =D Wait…………

  • i have to say….this post is sexist. There are guy waitresses too…well I guess they’d be waiters…How about on their head? So you could be interested in their minds! =D

  • @TheIceCube - Haha well I hope that i’ve not made you more away of guys eyelines with thing :S

But I suppose something slightly lower and off to the side would work…depending on the endowment :P
@Cestovatelka - Yea a head bands not a bad idea…but I wouldn’t want to be responsible for waitresses all having to put on head bands :S
And men can still gawk if they want…it would just help save the innocent short sighted nerds :P

  • @tyrannosaurus_specs - hahaha Honestly it’s my eyes! ;)

And yea well on the back would be good, but then it would be an issue for long hair and what if they never turned round?…and the ass thing, but i’m guessing it would be on the back…not the ‘lower back’
@AdamsWomanFell - No I think i’d be pretty interested by someone with a tattoo on their foreheads lol
Nice to see you around abouts Xanga again HUGS :D

  • @BlindSight22 - Lmao that is a perfect line, I shall have to remember that one just in case I ever do get challenged when trying to read a tag :)

Yea thats a point I suppose it’s position might have it’s upsides too :P Or dare I say the breast location has it’s ‘good points’ :S

  • @Cucumber_Melonhead - Hahah I like the belt buckle idea, like you say it would be eye level, but it wouldn’t work for bar staff or a cafe with a counter.

Also yes there are waiters…but in general they tend not to mind if you stare at a mans chest :P however with the belt buckle tag the gender playing field would be entirely level…everyone would be potentially uncomfortable lol

  • ha haw, yep, what are we supposed to do?

Oops, my wifes name is Alison but it’s not spelled with a Y.

  • I don’t need a name tag because everybody already knows me

  • @BFB1131 - Haha, yeah, sometimes at Hooters the name tag is nestled in the cleavage… I’m thinking they’re ENCOURAGING guys to look. They’re very friendly at Hooters… all the waitresses are so perky.

  • @NewDog2 - Haha damn, I’d not even read her tag :P

    @fabolousclown - lol Plus you’re not a waitress which helps ;)

@BlindSight22 - Yea well the tip there might be the name of the place ;)
(God help me but I love puns lol :P )

  • Back when I worked at a Dunkin’ Donuts, we’d wear our name tags an inch or two above the point the woman in the picture is wearing.

Conversely, maybe they could have a policy of all the waitresses having the same name, and display it in a banner somewhere.  “Hello.  All our waitresses respond to the name Christeneth” or something like that.  That way everyone would know everyone’s name, and no one would have unintentionally to stare at anyone else’s chest.

    :D

  • @Lakakalo - I love that idea! You could only hire people with the same name :D
Or rename them to amusing things like Christeneth lol

  • @BFB1131 - You could even go co-op, hiring or renaming everyone to something like Pat, or Chris, or perhaps Lee. :D

  • @Lakakalo - Or you could do what the philosophy department at the University Of Wooloomooloo does, and call everyone Bruce.

  • @purpleranger@ireallylikefood - But that could be pretty dangerous.  I mean do you know what happens when Bruce is angry? You won’t like Bruce when Bruce is angry.
